Where can I charge my EV on the Isle of Harris?
Just as petrol stations are more sparse on the Isle of Harris and the Outer Hebrides in general, so are electric vehicle charge points. You do need to plan your EV journey to take account of this. But as an EV driver, you will be used to planning ahead, and with Scotland being EV-friendly you should have an excellent experience.
You will probably be coming to Harris via CalMac’s ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert on Harris, so it is good to know that there is a 43kw rapid charger at Uig near to the ferry terminal and the same on the other side in Tarbert.
Driving around Harris you will find charge points in Leverburgh at the pier and at Talla na Mara in Nisabost. These are 22kw so it’s a good idea to plan lunch at Talla na Mara while your EV charges away! The 43kw charger in Tarbert is handy while you shop.
Further North, on Lewis (which is connected to Harris) there are many charge points including in Stornoway while you shop and even right at the tip of the islands at Ness. The ChargePlace website provides a map and live availability.

Can I charge my EV at Oran Na Mara?
At the moment – unfortunately not.
In common with almost all self catering houses, Oran na Mara cannot offer EV charging yet, even with a granny cable.
Our electric system and insurance does not facilitate this. We are planning to upgrade our system and install a charger for your future trips, and will update our information when this is available.
