Hygge on Harris

Now that the nights are getting longer, the stars are coming out and it’s Aurora season too. Moonlit beach walks are a special treat, with the phosphorescent glow of the sea adding to the atmosphere. The dark skies of Harris provide such clear starscapes that you can see the Milky Way from horizon-to-horizon right outside the door. We provide star and moon maps as well as astronomical binoculars so that you can explore the skies.

The light in the day is beloved by photographers, and the clear air affords long distance views across the islands and to the mainland.

The sea can be anything from flat calm to roaring waves. The hills of Harris can be dusted with snow, but it rarely gets below freezing at sea level.

When it is time to retire indoors, Oran na Mara is a cosy haven. Light up the wood-burning stove, and relax in the snug.

“Hygge on Harris” is our winter season offer, and includes Hotel Chocolat flakes, a velvetiser and a touch of Arran Gold to make the most delicious hot chocolate, accompanied by shortbread. Plenty of throws to cosy up with, and electric blankets in every bed mean that you’ll never feel the chill.

You will sleep on Hypnos Gold beds with soft silk-filled duvets meaning that you have plenty of excuses to have a lazy morning!
