Isle of Harris – A perfect winter holiday in the Outer Hebrides
Hygge on Harris
Paul Honeywell
Winter holidays Outer Hebrides – We love winter on Harris! The islands are quiet, indeed serene, with different opportunities according to the weather.
Active weather brings dramatic seas, wonderful light and skyscapes so loved by photographers. Calm days bring beautiful walks, and relaxation. Clear night skies bring the most incredible starscapes, with horizon-to-horizon Milky Way and more stars than you can possibly imagine. Moonlit nights mean walks on the beach in the ethereal light. And, of course, there is the chance of the famed Northern Lights dancing across the night sky, right outside the door of Oran na Mara.
Hygge on Harris is Rosie’s idea, bringing cosiness and warmth to the whole winter experience. Oran na Mara is like a viewing platform, with huge windows overlooking the arc of the vast Scarista beach, and right from the islands in the south to the hills in the north. You can watch it all happening, soaking up the experience.
A Hotel Chocolat velvetiser with supplies of their chocolate flakes, artisan marshmallows and Arran Gold crème liqueur make for a special treat. Homemade shortbreads from Rosie’s kitchen are guaranteed to be a firm favourite. Nordic-style throws and plentiful supplies of wood for the fire ensure that you will be warm. Star and moon maps with astronomical binoculars are available to help you marvel at the universe above.
Hygge on Harris is provided for the weeks from November to February each year. Why not experience it for yourselves?
